No, it's not normal.
There are all sorts of folk at my school, and it's unusual for me to not be asked "What's anime/manga?"
(Which is why no one cares about the anime club. Well, at least the chess club and debate team can relate...)
Shiny eyes are important(if only because eyes with no highlights look flat.) but they aren't the main determining factor for what is or isn't manga. (but they do look cute.) I wonder why people say kawaii desu when kawaii is the word for cute all on its on, no "desu" required. Well, so long as they don't type "kowai" (scary) in its place, no harm done.
Manga psychopath?.... Are you referring to the infamous "rabid fangirls"? (You know, the ones that get cuckoo if anything canon messes with their pairings or get angry when you don't like what they like)
